To obtain the subject new compound containing plural enamine groups in one molecule and capable of providing an organic EL element having good luminescent efficiency, luminescence with high luminance and luminescence at a low driving voltage and hardly causing deterioration by a substance such as water or oxygen.
This compound is represented by formula I {Ar is (CH2)n or a (substituted)arylene; R1 and R2 are each H, a (substituted)aryl or a lower alkyl; R3 is a (substituted)aryl; R4 is H or a (substituted)alkyl; X is O, S or the like; A1 and A2 are each H, a lower alkyl or the like; (n) is 0-4}, e.g. a compound of formula II. Furthermore, the compound is preferably obtained by heating an aldehyde compound or ketone compound of formula III and a hydrazone compound of formula IV under reflux in an organic solvent such as ethanol in acidic atmosphere and heating the resultant compound and an aldehyde of formula V under reflux in an aromatic organic solvent such as benzene in the presence of a catalyst such as nitric acid.
