To reduce the cost of a rotation detector (encoder) connected to a paper feed roller for accurately grasping a paper feed amount.

In a printer, an encoder wheel for rotation detection is provided on a paper feed roller, and another encoder wheel for rotation detection is provided on a paper ejection roller which performs paper feed after the paper is sent out of the feed roller. The detector of the encoder connected to the feed roller is also used for detecting the rotation of the encoder wheel connected to the ejection roller, thereby detecting the movement of paper at a low cost.
