Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the delay in the timing which generates an external field and the load on the magnetic coil in a magnetooptic recording system executed under application of an external magnetic field.
SOLUTION: The method is used to record multivalued information in accordance with the intensity of the external magnetic field applied to a recording medium. In a transition from a multivalued code at the time just before the transition to the multivalued code at a time t, the multivalued code at the time t is uniquely determined by the binary code to be inputted to the encoder and the multivalued code at the time t-1 immediately before, and encoding is executed under the transition rule in which such transition alone that the absolute difference value between the multivalue code at the time t-1 and that at the time t is '0' or '1' is allowed. Viterbi decoding can be applied at the time of decoding.
