Abstract:
To provide an encoding method and an encoding device that can more effectively eliminate redundancy of information included in target data (quantized coefficient) to be processed by variable length encoding in accordance with characteristics of quantized coefficients and the state of encoding processing on the quantized coefficients, and then more improve a compression ratio for an image signal or the like.
A code table is selected based upon information on the number of unencoded coefficients indicating the number of unencoded coefficients, and variable length encoding of the unencoded coefficient values is performed in order from a high-frequency component to a low-frequency component using the selected code table.
