To speed up a ciphered DB retrieval processing of a retrieval system which retrieves a document stored in a ciphered DB in a ciphered state.
The system is equipped with an index storage part which stores keywords, and ciphered document names including the keywords, and dates when the keywords are retrieved, a retrieval processing part which receives a retrieval request including a ciphered keyword and transmits a document name when the keyword is present in the index storage part, a score arithmetic part which generates a score from the frequency of retrieval or importance of the keyword for sequential update each time retrieval processing is carried out, and an index update management part which updates the contents stored in the index storage part according to the score updated by the score arithmetic part.
