To continuously carry out a series of operations of laser cutting, abutting of cut end faces, and laser welding of the abutting end faces with respect to band steel such as a band saw blade.
This is such a welding method with respect to a band steel BS that a series of processes is continuously carried out, namely, (a) process for bending the band steel BS annularly and superposing its one end on the other in the width direction, (b) process for continuously cutting the one end and the other of the band steel BS by a laser beam, (c) process for abutting and pressurizing the cut end faces, and (d) process for welding the abutting faces by means of the same laser machining head 73. The device is so structured that it is equipped with a first clamp device 5 capable of holding the band steel BS, a second clamp device 7 movable in the Y-axis direction orthogonal to the X-axis at a position adjacent to the first clamp device 5, and the laser machining head 73 capable of cutting and welding the band steel BS held by the first and the second clamp device 5, 7, and moving in the Y-axis direction and that the first clamp device 5 can be moved in the X-axis direction.
