To provide an endoscope apparatus for observing light diffusion of an organic tissue, capable of miniaturizing the tip of an endoscope and simplifying an optical system for detection in observing diffusing spectrum information as an image, and a method of observation.
The endoscope apparatus comprises a light source 1, a first illumination optical system 2, a second illumination optical system 3, a light receiving optical system 4, a mechanism 5 for switching and guiding the light from the light source 1 to either one illumination optical system, a detector 6 for detecting the light received by the light receiving optical system 4, and an operation means 7 for calculating the difference or ratio between a signal detected when illuminated by the first illumination optical system 2 and a signal detected when illuminated by the second illumination optical system 3. The endoscope apparatus satisfies the following relation: α1<α2 when the angle between the center beam A1 of the illumination light coming from the first illumination optical system 2 and the optical axis AO of the light receiving optical system is α1, and the angle between the center beam A2 of the illumination light coming from the second illumination optical system 3 and the optical axis AO of the light receiving optical system is α2.
