Concerning the endoscope image pickup device provided with an endoscope for providing the optical image of a subject while being inserted into an observation object, CCD for photoelectrically transducing the optical image, outputting it as an analog image pickup signal and enabling low-speed and high-speed shutter image pickup, A/D converting circuit for converting the image pickup signal to a digital signal, and digital signal process circuit 26 for performing digital signal processing to the output of this A/D converting circuit, the digital signal process circuit 26 is constituted by providing a dynamic range expanding processing means 41 for expanding a dynamic range based on the image pickup signal due to the high-speed/low-speed shutter and a contour emphasizing circuit 42 for performing processing for emphasizing the contour of the image to the digital signal after this dynamic range expanding processing.
