Abstract:
PURPOSE: To efficiently reduce the effect due to an impact against the chest and waist of a rider and to reduce the thickness of a body side.
CONSTITUTION: In this energy absorbing structure of a body side, a pad 23 is filled up in a chest energy absorbing part 20 of a car side door 10, and this energy absorbing part 20 is set to be increasing its deformed load almost at a fixed rate with an increase in displacement from the impact initial stage. Likewise, another pad 34 is filled up in a waist part energy absorbing part 32 of the side door 10, and this energy absorbing part 32 is set up so as to keep almost its constant deformed load irrespective of any increase in displacement from the impact initial stage.
