To provide a method for starting an energy converter in an advantageous way.
The method is for starting the energy converter provided with a free piston engine 1 provided with at least one piston 2 and 3, at least one combustion chambers 6 and 7 provided with at least one of intake ports 11 and 13 and at least one of exhaust ports 10 and 12, intake valves and exhaust valves 14, 15, 16, and 17, and means 18 and 19 to feed fuel and oxygen-containing mediums to the combustion chambers 6 and 7, an electric machine 9 provided to directly or indirectly interact with the pistons 2 and 3 in an electromagnetic way to generate electric energy by the motion of the pistons, and to affect the motion of the pistons using the electric energy, a control device to control the free piston engine 1 and the electric machine 9, and a capacitor electrically connected to the electric machine 9.
