To stop an engine for economical running even if voltage of a main battery is lower than a reference value in a condition in which the conditions for engine stop for economical running are fully prepared to improve fuel economy.
In this engine automatic stop and start controller provided with a lead battery, a lithium ion battery, a DC/DC converter for adjusting voltage of the lithium ion battery into voltage of the lead battery, and electrical parts driven by the batteries to stop the engine when the conditions for engine stop for economical running having lead battery voltage PbV being a first reference value V1 or more are satisfied for economical running, output currents and voltages PbV, PbA, LiV, LiA of the lead battery and the lithium ion battery are detected, and the engine is stopped for economical running when voltage LiV of the lithium ion battery is above a predetermined value V0 even if lead battery voltage PbV is less than the first reference value V1 to perform economical running.
