Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine auxiliary brake device, capable of increasing an operating responsiveness without impairing simplification.
SOLUTION: In this engine auxiliary brake device, an oil passage 40, connected to an exhaust valve drive unit 18 disposed for each cylinder and extending in the direction of the cylinder rows of an engine, is provided inside a cylinder head 2 of the engine at a position adjacent to a cooling water passage 14a having an exhaust port 8. Through this, even when the oil temperature is low in cold weather, hydraulic fluid moving to each exhaust valve drive unit 18 is preheated by a heat applied from the cooling water in the cooling water passage 14a to increase the temperature rise rate so as to reduce the viscosity of the hydraulic fluid. Thus, in cold weather, also the auxiliary brake can be switched on and off with a high responsiveness.
