PURPOSE: To make it possible to intensify an engine braking effect with ease by cutting fuel feed off from an injector while the footing stroke of an accelerator pedal is made less than a specified one at the time of reducing vehicle speeds, and thereby concurrently closing a closing valve for engine brake.

CONSTITUTION: In a two cycle direct injection engine, an engine main body 1 is provided with an injector 10 which injects fuel into a combustion chamber 8 so as to burn fuel, an engine brake closing valve 60 for a bypass passage 35 for bypassing a scavenge valve 33 and with an auxiliary closing valve 61 between an air cleaner 34 and the scavenge pump 33. In this case, when engine revolutions are equal to or more than a specified one at the time of reducing vehicle speeds, fuel feed from the injector 10 is cut off. And both the closing valve 60 and the auxiliary closing valve 61 are concurrently closed based on a closing signal from a control unit 45. This situation permits the pumping work of the scavenge pump 33 which is mechanically driven by the wheel side to become extremely great while drive resistance is imparted to braking, thereby making it possible to intensify an engine braking effect.
