While the means 20 automatically stops the engine 10 when a predetermined engine stop condition J1 is satisfied when the vehicle 1 is stopped, depending on detection results of operational status detection means 31, 32 detecting a plurality of vehicular operational statuses such as a vehicle speed and braking operation state, the means 20 restarts the engine 10 when a predetermined engine restart condition J2 is satisfied in an automatic stop state of the engine 10. The predetermined engine restart condition J2 is that a depression speed of the brake pedal 30 is not lower than a predetermined speed and a depression quantity of the brake pedal 30 exceeds a predetermined quantity, and the engine automatic stop/restart means 20 restarts the engine 10 under the engine restart condition J2.
