This engine control device has a greenhouse effect gas exhaust quantity detecting means 300 for directly or indirectly detecting the exhaust quantity of the greenhouse effect gas such as carbon dioxide exhausted from the engine 10. The greenhouse effect gas exhaust quantity detecting means 300 has a carbon dioxide concentration detecting means for directly or indirectly detecting the concentration of the carbon dioxide exhausted from the downstream side of a combustion chamber 17 and/or a catalyst 50, and an exhaust gas flow rate detecting means for directly or indirectly detecting an exhaust gas flow rate exhausted from the downstream side of the combustion chamber 17 and/or the catalyst 50.
