Abstract:
The present invention relates to an engine control unit (16) of an internal combustion engine which is especially operated by diesel fuel, heavy fuel, or gas. The internal combustion engine has a fuel supply system, and specifically a common rail fuel supply system including solenoid actuators. The engine control unit (16) includes means (17, 18, 19) in order to automatically detect and evaluate an actual value of at least one magnetic variable of at least one solenoid actuator (15) in case the fuel supply system is depressurized during a stoppage of the internal combustion engine. When each actual value deviates from a corresponding target value by a predetermined amount or less, the engine control unit (16) automatically estimates a properly operating solenoid actuator. When each actual value deviates from a corresponding target value by a predetermined amount or more, the engine control unit (16) automatically estimates an improperly operating solenoid actuator.
