Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively refresh NOx catalyst when necessary, without bringing about problems such as degradation of combustibility. SOLUTION: An engine is equipped with a canister 66 for storing an evaporated fuel, an evaporated fuel supplying means 68 for supplying the evaporated fuel upon purging to the suction line of the engine, an EGR means 29 for circulating the exhaust gas back to the suction line, and a NOx catalyst 35, wherein the downstream end of the purge passage 67 of the evaporated fuel supplying means 68 is connected with the connection part of the EGR passage 37 of the EGR means 29 to the suction line or in the neighborhood of the connection part, and the means 68 and 29 are controlled so that the evaporated fuel is supplied upon purging to the suction line at transition from the lean operating region of the engine to rich operating condition, and also a part of the exhaust gas is recirculated to the suction line so that the NOx catalyst 35 is refreshed by a refresh control means 55.
