To effectively prevent temperature of a high-pressure fuel pump or fuel from being excessively raised, and to achieve an improvement in fuel economy, suppression of abrasion or the like without causing deterioration in operation performance and exhaust performance caused by a reduction in fuel pressure.
This control device for an engine includes: a cylinder fuel injection valve; a fuel injection valve for an intake port; the high-pressure fuel pump 18 forcibly feeding fuel to the cylinder fuel injection valve; a high-pressure fuel rail provided between the cylinder fuel injection valve and the high-pressure fuel pump 18; an electromagnetic fuel relief valve 17 reducing pressure in the high-pressure fuel rail; and a temperature sensor 114 detecting temperature of the high-pressure fuel pump 18 or fuel temperature correlated therewith. The opening of the electromagnetic fuel relief valve 17 is feedback controlled so that the temperature of the high-pressure fuel pump or the fuel temperature correlated therewith detected by the temperature sensor 114 reaches a predetermined upper limit in order to prevent an excessive rise in the temperature of the high-pressure pump 18.
