A vehicular engine controller is provided with a throttle failure detecting means S1 for detecting the failure of a throttle valve system including a throttle valve and a throttle opening degree sensor, a throttle power supply stopping means S2 for stopping the supply of power to a throttle actuator when the failure of the throttle control system is detected and a specified running state detecting means S3 for detecting the transfer of a running state to a specified running state equivalent to the full-closed state of the throttle valve, and a bypass control means S4 is provided for supplying air to the engine when the specified running state is detected during the operation of the throttle power supply stopping means.
