To provide an engine exhaust-emission control device in which a catalyst can be heated even without a great capacity generator and an electric heater under an operating condition in which an exhaust temperature is below a temperature for catalytic activation.
The control device comprises a filter, a heating means, an exhaust flow-rate reduction means, and a control means. The filter is provided in the exhaust system of the engine for oxidizing particulates in exhaust gas by catalytic action and removing them. The heating means is provided in the upstream of the filter or in the filter in order to heat the filter. A flow rate of exhaust gas flowing in the filter is reduced by the flow-rate reduction means. The control means drives the flow-rate reduction means prior to the heating of the filter.
