To adapt stable idling state against various increases of load at the time of idling, especially to a high compression ratio engine with a small exhaust amount.
An opening of a flow control valve arranged on a bypass intake passage bypassing a throttle valve is increased correspondingly to increase of an intake gauge pressure in an idling state. The intake pipe gauge pressure may get higher than usual to cause high load due to retarding of ignition, etc., at the time of park idling under high temperature atmosphere, independently of increase of load when lights or an air conditioner is switched ON. Even in such a case, the fluctuation of the intake gauge pressure caused thereby is sensed and a secondary air supply amount corresponding to the load can be secured. Stable engine speed at the time of idling can thus be obtained.
