Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stratificate in a simple structure that does not have a mixture supply port and realize a good lean-burn driving. SOLUTION: A first inlet port 3 and a second inlet port 4 are interconnected to each other in a cylinder 1 where a spark plug 8 is installed in a nearly central part. In addition, an on-off valve 10 is installed in the second inlet port 4, and a fuel injection nozzle of an injector 16 is inserted into a gap between this on-off valve 10 and an inlet valve. At a lean driving area where a target air-fuel ratio is higher than a thoretical air-fuel ratio, the on-off valve 10 is almost fully opened, and an air-fuel mixture formed in the second inlet port 4 at the downstream side is fed to the vicinity of the spark plug 8, thereby aiming at the promotion of stratification.
