Abstract:
To prevent generation of preignition and damage to an engine, by detecting a phenomenon possibly leading to preignition and performing an operation for preventing the preignition.
A spark plug 6 is installed in a cylinder head 5 such that a plug cover 14 protrudes from the cylinder head 5 side to a combustion chamber 3 and an ignition chamber 15 and the combustion chamber 3 communicate with each other via a communication hole. If an overload state is determined in which a heat load on the plug cover 14 or electrodes 11, 12 is overloaded, an operating condition of the engine is changed such that the heat load on the plug cover 14 or the electrodes 11, 12 is reduced.
