Magnets and cores 7 are arranged oppositely along the entire circumference of the inner wall face of a cylindrical motor case wherein the magnets and cores are arranged radially with the opposing faces divided into a plurality of sections in the circumferential direction on the inside and outside, respectively. One of the magnet and core is secured to a rotor shaft located on the axis of the motor case and the other constitutes the stator secured to the motor case side. In such an engine starter, the face (pole face 40) opposing the magnet of the core 7 is skewed.
