To provide an engine starter in which backlash is prevented from occurring in a connection ignition switch.

In the engine starter, an ignition switch 3 which is operated by a rotational operation force to a rotational operation shaft 1 is connected to a housing 2 in which the rotational operation shaft 1 is accommodated. The ignition switch 3 is fitted and held in a mounting recess 4 formed in the housing 2, by being prevented by appropriate elastic lock means 5 from dropping off. In the ignition switch 3 and the mounting recess 4, a fit starting end side peripheral wall surface and a fit terminating end side peripheral wall surface are brought into press-contact substantially simultaneously when the depth of the ignition switch 3 fitted into the mounting recess 4 becomes predetermined depth, and backlash in a radial direction is regulated.
