Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a coaxial engine starting device which can omit external wiring and more reduce a size in an axial direction without making its structure complex.
CONSTITUTION: An engine starting device has a pinion 6 for driving a ring gear which is joined with a spline to an output shaft 4 driven by a DC electric motor 3, a switch 7 for opening and closing an electric power supply circuit to the DC electric motor, and an electromagnetic device 9 comprising a cylindrical armature and an exciting coil surrounding the output shaft so as to give a displacement in an axial direction to the movable contact plate 8 of the switch and the pinion, and the electromagnetic device is disposed between the DC electric motor and the pinion. The commutator 29 of the DC motor is disposed in the side of the electromagnetic device and the contact point of the switch is disposed between a pair of brushes.
