Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a coaxial engine starting device which can reduce the number of the parts around a switch and more reduce sizes in a radial direction and an axial direction.
CONSTITUTION: An engine starting device has a pinion 6 for driving a ring gear which is joined with a spline to an output shaft 4 driven by a DC electric motor 3, a switch 7 for opening and closing an electric power supply circuit to the DC electric motor, and an electromagnetic device 9 comprising a cylindrical armature and an exciting coil surrounding the output shaft so as to give a displacement in an axial direction to the movable contact plate 8 of the switch and the pinion, and the commutator part 29 of the DC electric motor abuts on the electromagnetic device. The contact plate 8 of the switch is disposed near a brush 38 and the pig tail of the brush is connected to the movable contact plate. In particular, it is recommended that an armature be divided into a first part 25 connected to the movable contact plate and a second part 26 connected to the pinion and they engage with each other inside and outside such that they can move relatively in an axial direction.
