To provide an engine starting method and an engine starting device to further reliably start an engine, prevent the generation of noise at a coupling part between a cell motor and the engine, and reduce a load exerted on the coupling part and a cell motor itself.

When an engine starting signal is received from a remote control unit 15, an engine starting device body 10 detects temperature based on a signal outputted from a temperature detecting 20, and and sets a time ts, starting from the starting of the engine ending in the stop of the feed of a power to a cell motor circuit 30, based on a detecting result therefrom. A power is fed to the cell motor circuit 30 through a relay circuit 13 to rotate a cell motor. Thereafter, when it is detected that the engine is started by an output from a number of revolutions pulse detecting part 26, after a lapse of the set time ts, the feed of a power to the cell motor circuit 30 is stopped.
