Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To curb deterioration of a work environment around a general purpose engine even when the same is used in an environment with poor ventilation.SOLUTION: An engine stop device 61 is applied to a general purpose engine 10 which comprises an engine body 11 having: an engine unit 15 made up of a crank case 18 rotatably supporting a crank shaft 17 and a cylinder with a piston to rotationally drive the crank shaft 17 incorporated thereinto in a manner that enables the piston to reciprocate; and a cooling fan rotationally driven by the crank shaft 17 to generate cooling air. A gas sensor unit 62, including a CO sensor detecting a concentration of exhaust gas in a surrounding environment, is installed on the engine body 11 at a downstream side thereof in a flow direction of the cooling air. The engine unit is stopped when the gas concentration detected by the gas sensor unit exceeds a threshold.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
