When the engine 100 performs HCCI combustion, the ECU 50 controls each part of the engine system 200 to perform self-igniting combustion at a target combustion timing. The target combustion timing is set to be longer as the revolution speed of the engine 100 is higher while keeping a time from a compression top dead center to the target combustion timing always constant.
