Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To offer simple construction permitting consistently successful and quick detection of the temperature of an engine which has an oil pump mounted on an engine body provided with a crank case, a cylinder block and a cylinder head for pumping an oil from an oil storage part formed at the lower part of the crank case and oil supply passages provided at least in the cylinder block and the cylinder head ranging over the oil pump for guiding the valve system lubricating oil, while hardly receiving the influences of a change in the operated condition and attitude of the engine and of environmental heat radiation from the outer surface of the engine.
SOLUTION: The oil supply passage 67 is located in the cylinder head 37 closer to an inlet port 47 than to an exhaust port 48. A temperature detector is mounted on the engine body 34 with its detecting element part facing the oil supply passage 67.
