In a power train system, a torque converter 12, an automatic transmission 14, a differential gear 16, a tire 18 and vehicle body 20 are sequentially connected to an engine 10. An engine torque characteristic value, and an engine torque decrease amount map at a time of fuel cut are prestored corresponding to an engine speed and accelerator opening or a throttle opening by using an experimental or predetermined estimation expression. At a predetermined timing, the engine torque characteristic value and the engine torque decrease amount are additionally estimated by using the estimation expression, and the prestored value is updated by the additionally estimated value, thereby, an error caused by such as secular change is eliminated.
