This engine with a variable valve gear includes a cam phase variable mechanism 20 provided to one ends of intake camshafts 21, 22 and varying the phase of the drive cam of the intake valve relative to the crankshaft of the engine. The cam phase variable mechanism 20 is configured by arranging two vane hydraulic actuators 50, 51 on the intake camshafts 21, 22 in the axial direction, respectively. The vane rotor 50b of the first vane hydraulic actuator 50 and a housing 51a for covering the vane rotor 51b of the second vane hydraulic actuator 51 are fixed to each other to form the first vane hydraulic actuator 50 and the second vane hydraulic actuator 51 integrally with each other.
