Abstract:

To provide an engine capable of achieving both of a high thermal efficiency owing to promotion of the combustion with premixed compressive ignition and a reduction of the emission.

The engine 100 is equipped with fuel supplying means 22 and 23 to supply the first fuel having a higher self-ignitability than gasoline and the second fuel having a higher combustion speed than gasoline so that a mixture gas containing these two sorts of fuel is formed in the combustion chamber 14, an igniting means 25 to ignite the mixture gas, and a control means to control the supplying means 22 and 23 and the igniting means 25, wherein the control means adjusts the mix proportion of the two sorts of fuel being supplied so that combustion with self-ignition takes place after the mixture gas ignited has made flame propagating combustion and ignites the mixture gas in the combustion chamber with the igniting means.
