Abstract:
To generate a strong tumble flow in a combustion chamber.SOLUTION: An engine 10 which is provided with a combustion chamber 20 has: a cylinder head with an intake port 21 communicated with the combustion chamber 20 formed thereon; an intake valve 61 with an umbrella section 61a opening and closing an opening end 31a of the intake port 21 formed thereon; a bulkhead plate 50 which separates the intake port 21 into a first flow passage 41 and a second flow passage 42; and a tumble valve 27 which opens or closes either the first flow passage 41 or the second flow passage 42. Given that a direction from a reference point in the intake port 21 to a gap G between the opening end 31a and the umbrella section 61a is defined as a reference direction, a sectional shape of the bulkhead plate 50 corresponds to a shape of the gap surrounded by profiles of the umbrella section 61a and the opening end 31a when viewed in the reference direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
