To provide an envelope for a flat display of a spacer-less structure which withstands a tensile stress under an atmospheric pressure, while a problem of warping is solved and its weight is made lighter.
An envelope for a flat display is provided with a glass container having a front glass and a rear glass, and a rear plate, and the front glass is composed of a face part and a skirt part. A seal edge part of the skirt part and the rear glass is airtightly sealed and a ratio of a Young's modulus of the rear glass to that of the rear plate is 2 to 3, and outer diameters of the rear glass and the rear plate are practically larger than an outer diameter of the front glass, and when a maximum outer diameter of the seal edge part of the front glass is DFG (mm), a thickness of the rear glass is TRG (mm), and a thickness of the rear plate is TRP (mm), formulas of 1.5≤TRG≤3.0 and 0.014≤TRP/DFG≤0.023 are satisfied.
