To efficiently epoxidize the subject compound useful as a raw material for various organic syntheses and a raw material for synthetic resins and medicines by reacting an olefin compound with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of titanium silicalite, an alcohol and a ketone.
An olefin compound such as ethylene, propylene, 1-butene, 2- butene, isoprene, 1-hexene, 1-octene or allyl alcohol is reacted with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an aliphatic alcohol of the formula CnH2n+1OH ((n) is ≤5) and an aliphatic ketone of the formula CmH2m+1OH(CO)CnH2n+1 (m+n is 2-5) and a titanium silicalite catalyst obtained by hydrolyzing tetraethyl orthosilicate and tetraethyl orthotitanate in the presence of tetrapropyl ammonium hydroxide, distilling away formed ethanol, adding a proper amount of water to the resulting solution to give a solution, transferring the solution to an autoclave, subjecting the solution of hydrothermal synthesis to give a precipitate, cleaning and drying and baking the precipitate to efficiently epoxidize the objective olefin compound.
