PURPOSE: To enable easy and high-yield production of the subject novel polymer, useful as a surface-treating agent, excellent in heat resistance, coldness resistance, electric insulation and water repellency, and giving water and oil-repelling properties, by allowing 3 kinds of specific monomers to react with one another.
CONSTITUTION: This copolymer expressed by formula V having 500 to 100,000 molecular weight is obtained by effecting the polymerization reaction of (A) a peroxy-difluoroalkanoyl of formula I [RF is (CF2)n1X, formula II (X is F, Cl; n1 is 1 to 10; n2 is 0 to 8)], preferably peroxy-diperfluorobutyryl, with (B) an epoxy-containing monomer of formula III [R2 is H, 1 to 5C alkyl; R3 is 1 to 10 alkylene, (CH2CH2O)PCH2 ((P) is 1 to 10); R4, R5 are H, 1 to 18C alkyl] and (C) a silicon-containing ethylenic monomer of formula IV [R1 is H, methyl; Z1, Z2 are 1 to 10C alkyl, OR5 (R5 is 1 to 4C alkyl; m3 is 0, 1; when m3=0, R1 is H], preferably trimethoxyvinylsilane preferably at 0 to 100°C for 1 to 10 hours.
