PURPOSE: To furnish equipment for recognizing automatically the number of coupled vehicles and the sequence of coupling.
CONSTITUTION: Data transmission devices 11 to 14 are mounted on a plurality of coupled vehicles 1 to 4, one of the devices is a master station while the rest are used as slave stations, and data are transmitted and received through a transmission line. In this data transmission system, data outputted from each data transmission device have various variant storage areas. Moreover, the master station is so constructed as to have a means for specifying and transmitting a storage address of the vehicle number after executing a prescribed processing on the basis of the data in each area. The slave station is so constructed as to have a means of storing the vehicle number read in when the data are received, or the like. According to this constitution, it is possible to recognize automatically the number of vehicles of a formed train, to determine distinctly a difference between the number of actually coupled vehicles and the number of the recognized vehicles and to recognize the vehicle numbers of the formed train in the sequence of coupling. Therefore a control proper to each vehicle, e.g. a control of temperature for cooling and heating, can be conducted.
