To provide equipment and a method for gas shield welding which enable prevention of entrapment of atmospheric air into a weld zone and in the vicinity thereof.
The shield gas fed to a gas fed box 12 is passed through a porous plate 13 to form a laminar flow, and flows upwardly from a bottom part of a shield vessel 4. Thus, atmospheric air present in the shield vessel 4 is discharged outside from an opening part 8 of a lid member 5 placed slidably in the horizontal direction, and the shield vessel 4 is filled with the shield gas. In this condition, a base metal 9 is preheated by a high frequency induction heating coil 11, a welding torch 6 and a welding wire 7 are inserted in the shield vessel 4 from an upper part through the opening part 8 of the lid member 5, and the base metal 9 is TIG-welded.
