PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an equipment and method for smoothing a steel pipe seam portion which can effectively control a thickened seam portion of a steel pipe produced by the solid phase pressure welding method.
SOLUTION: With the equipment to smooth the seam portion of a steel pipe equipped with an outer roll 5 and an inner roll 6 to roll while pressing the thickened seam portion 10x from the outside and inside of the pipe, an inner roll carriage 7 which holds the inner roll 6 in a turnable way and incorporates cooling water passages 11a, 11b (11), and a connecting rod 9 to move the inner roll carriage 7 in the pipe axial direction and fix it at a certain position and to supply cooling water to the water passages 11, to smooth the thickened seam portion 10x of a steel pipe 4 pressure-welded and produced with a squeeze roll 3 after both edges of an open pipe 1 are induction-heated, the thickened seam portion 10x is rolled by generating rolling force by adjusting the spacing between the outer roll 5 and inner roll 6 by moving the outer roll 5 in the radius direction of the steel pipe while supplying cooling water to the water passage 11.
