PURPOSE: To facilitate transforming a wheelchair use footstep to a normal form by providing a hand turning unit for rotating a drive force transmitting mechanism by manual operation and a hand turning unit for disengaging a ratchet from a gear by manual operation, in an escalator device provided with the wheelchair use footstep.

CONSTITUTION: In the case of transforming a wheelchair use footstep, when it is placed in a wheelchair form, into a normal form, a bolt 32 of the first footstep, stopped in a tilt part of an escalator, is turned to move a bracket 29 upward, and a wire 30, connecting its one end to the bracket 29, is pulled to shake the bracket 29. In this way, a ratchet 22, biting in the bottom of a sprocket 15a, is released to place a drive force transmitting mechanism 13 in a condition capable of rotary action. Under this condition, a hand turning unit 38 is inserted to a hole provided in a footstep, to fit the point end to a hole provided in a gear shaft 35, and by rotating the hand turning unit 38, the drive force transmitting mechanism 13 is rotated, to retract forks 8, 9 of the first/second footsteps 3, 4 and a wheel stop 12 of the third footstep 5.
