Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an escalator capable of detecting damage to a triangular protective plate even when the triangular protective plate is damaged without falling down, and a method of controlling an escalator.SOLUTION: An escalator includes: endlessly coupled steps; a driving unit for rotationally operating the steps; a rail including an endless belt; a handrail to rotatably support the rail; a sensor that detects the presence or absence of a triangular protective plate and is disposed at a position on the handrail which corresponds to a reflector disposed on the triangular protective plate; and a control unit that transmits a warning to a management device when a determination is made that there is no triangular protective plate on the basis of an output of the sensor.
