Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide esterificated starch having water resistance, having miscibility with the other plastics, and producible without using a non-aqueous organic solvent, and a starch-based plastic composition.SOLUTION: Provided is esterificated starch obtained by subjecting a heat-treated starch mixture including starch and polyhydric alcohol to esterification treatment with vinyl ester and a carbonate. By the heat-treatment of the starch mixture including the starch and the polyhydric alcohol, since the starch in the starch mixture lies in a state where the starch grains are collapsed by the polyhydric alcohol, without using a non-aqueous organic solvent, esterification is possible, and the esterified starch high in an ester substitution degree is made possible. According to the esterificated starch, a starch-based plastic composition having strong hydrophobic properties and excellent in water resistance and miscibility with the other plastics can be made.SELECTED DRAWING: None
