PURPOSE: To provide an ether containing carbonate bond, etc., derived from a sugar having acyclic structure such as sorbitol, having excellent lubricity and cleaning power and low hygroscopicity, usable as a lubricating oil for refrigerator, industrial gear oil, etc., and suitable as a lubricating oil for automobile air conditioner.

CONSTITUTION: A flask provided with a simple distillation column is charged with a methanol solution of a sorbitol added with propylene oxide and partially modified with methyl ether, di(methoxy-dipropoxy) carbonate and NaOCH3 and the mixture is made to react at 110-150°C under reduced pressure for 4hr to obtain the objective new ether expressed by formula I [R1 is group of formula II (R2 is ≤30C hydrocarbon group or 2-30C hydrocarbon.group having ether bond; R0 is ≤10C hydrocarbon group; n is integer of 1-24) or group of formula III (R3 is same as R2); m is integer of 1-6], having excellent lubricity and cleaning power and low hygroscopicity and suitable as a lubricating oil for refrigerator to use a high-viscosity lubricating oil.
