PURPOSE: To obtain an ethylene polymer excellent in moldability and useful for molding inflation film.
CONSTITUTION: The ethylene polymer is obtained in the first and second steps and satisfies the following requirements (i) to (iv): (i) the weight-average molecular weight (Mw,1) of the polymer obtained in the first step is 6×105 to 4×106, (ii) the ratio Mw,2/Mw,1 (wherein Mw,2 is the weight-average molecular weight of the polymer obtained in the second step) is 0.7 to 1.4, (iii) the molecular weight (M2) at which the cumulative weight fraction measured from the low- molecular-weight side is equal to one half of the weight fraction (W2) of the polymer obtained in the second step is 5×103 to 3×104, and (iv) the weight fraction (W1) of the polymer obtained in the first step is 0.45 to 0.70, and the weight fraction (W2) of the polymer obtained in the second step is 0.30 to 0.55.
