To stably crystallize eutectic graphite by carrying out first the improvement of the chemical composition of an eutectic graphite cast iron to be cast by a sand mold casting method and second the improvement of a mold for casting the eutectic graphite cast iron at the time of casting eutectic graphite cast iron by a sand mold casting method.
The eutectic graphite cast iron has a chemical composition which consists of, by weight, 2.9-3.7% C, 1.7-3.1% Si, ≤0.010% S, 0.001-0.010% Mg, 0.05-0.15% Ti, and the balance essentially Fe and where CE, represented by CE=C+Si/3, is regulated to 3.7 to 4.3%. Further, at the time of casting eutectic graphite cast iron by using a mold constituted by combining a sand mold 1 and a chill block 2 provided to the sand mold and used increase cooling for a casting, the shape of the chill block is formed in such a manner that it is made identical with the shape of a casting and also the plate thickness of the chill block is regulated to a value 0.2 to 0.6 times the thickness of the casting to control the cooling velocity of the casting.
