To provide a chemical evaluation method for carbon material by which the electrode capacity characteristic of the battery carbon material can be evaluated without manufacturing a battery.
Correlation between a calculated value obtained from a contact heating value (mJ/m2) per unit area computed after measuring the contact heating value (mJ/g) of carbon material and one kind organic solvent or more and/or a plurality of heating values (mJ/m2) and the discharge capacity of the carbon material obtained by evaluating a battery manufactured using the carbon material is previously examined. The contact heating value (mJ/g) of the same kind as the carbon material for examination or the different kind specimen carbon material and two kinds organic solvents or more is measured, and the discharge capacity of the specimen carbon material is evaluated, based on the previously examined correlation.
