Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To objectively and simply evaluate a skin barrier function, by loading stress on a small animal of model experiment, lowering a skin barrier function and using the recovery degree of the lowered function as an index of recovery ability.
SOLUTION: A mouse or a guinea pig is loaded with such stress as to significantly fecognize the delay of skin barrier function recovery. A fixed skin barrier function of the animal is lowered and a percutaneous water loss (TEWL) in a lowered site is measured with time. The measured data are compared with those obtained for animals (control) unloaded with stress and the difference between them is used as an index for recovery ability of skin barrier function to evaluate the skin barrier function.
