Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform treatment of evaporating fuel during stratification combustion of a cylinder injection type internal combustion engine.
SOLUTION: This evaporating fuel treating device comprises a canister 33 to temporarily adsorb evaporating fuel generated in a fuel tank 31; a purge valve 36 located in a purge passage 34 to intercommunicate the canister 33 and an intake collector 23; and an intake port purge valve 37 located in a purge passage 35 to intercommunicate the canister 33 and an intake port 15. In this case, during stratification combustion operation, evaporating fuel is purged through the intake port 15 at the initial stage of a suction stroke and at the latter stage of a compression stroke, fuel injected in a cavity 20 from a fuel injection valve 18 and the evaporating fuel are mixed together to prepare combustible air-fuel mixture, which is spark-ignited through an ignition plug 19. Meanwhile, during uniform combustion operation, evaporating fuel is purged from an intake collector 23 during a suction stroke. Fuel injected in a combustion chamber 13 from a fuel injection valve 18 and evaporating fuel are mixed together to prepare combustible air-fuel mixture, which is spark ignited by the ignition plug 19.
